SUMMARY:Responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, cost effective and environmentally sound transportation of petroleum cargo in the marine environment; oversight and monitoring of multiple seagoing petroleum tankers as well as coordination of daily operational vessel support. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Management position, responsible for ensuring vessels are crewed, operated, and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and customer expectations. Implements standard procedures and guidelines for the operation of a safe, reliable, and environmentally sound fleet. Assists in the development and adherence of the operational budgets. Investigates vessel damage, product spills, and personal injuries. Ensures all appropriate authorized and company personnel are notified and that proper documentation is completed accurately. Direct supervision of union and non-union vessel personnel. Ensures all vessel personnel comply with regulatory training requirements. Inspects vessels to ensure seaworthy condition, regulatory, customer, and owner expectations are met, arranges for maintenance and repair activities to correct any unaddressed deficiencies. Provides technical expertise, leadership and consultancy for issues impacting marine operations regarding specialized jobs in the field as well as legislative processes. May involve travel to multiple locations with occasional extended stays away from the homeport. EDUCATION:Academy degree in deck or engineering or equivalent work-related experience. EXPERIENCE: 5 – 10 years relevant experience in petroleum cargo handling and seagoing vessel operation. Petroleum transportation experience at chief mate’s or master's level preferred. TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY:Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word. COMPETENCIES:Ability to apply skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving, and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. JOB SCOPE:Position impacts multiple business units/segments. WORKING CONDITIONS:Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
